Rodents can sqeeze through the tight gaps in the foundation of homes. Sealing up these areas can help to reduce the chances of our customer's making contact with a rodent.
The signs of rats or mice are droppings, rat runs, smears, foot and tail marks, holes and nests.
Rubbish and overgrown vegetation should be kept to a minimum. Make sure that food is stored in closed containers. Put rubbish in closed containers too.
Cats and dogs may deter rodents but if there is an established infestation this will not occur.
Do not feed birds particularly in the summer as it is essential to remove any food source to rats and mice.
Rats can produce 6-7 litters per year and mice up to 8 litters per year.
Rats are generally not aggressive towards humans and will only attack if they feel threatened or cornered. However, there have been cases of rats biting people, especially children. Rat bites can be dangerous, as they can transmit diseases such as rabies, leptospirosis, and tetanus.
Rats and mice are known to carry many diseases. These diseases can spread to people directly, through handling of rodents; contact with rodent feces (poop), urine, or saliva (such as through breathing in air or eating food that is contaminated with rodent waste); or rodent bites.
